Alice Lynne “Lindy” Chamberlain-Creighton is a New Zealand-born woman who was wrongfully convicted in one of Australia’s most publicised murder trials. Accused of killing her nine-week-old daughter, Azaria, while camping at Uluru in 1980. She was released when a piece of Azaria’s clothing was found near a dingo lair, and new inquests were opened. In 2012, 32 years after Azaria’s death, the Chamberlains’ version of events was officially supported by a coroner.
The Chamberlain trial was the most publicised in Australian history. Given that most of the evidence presented in the case against Lindy Chamberlain was later rejected, the case is now used as an example of how media and bias can adversely affect a trial.[
